This NIH-funded Training Grant supports both predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows. Trainees can work for any one of 21 well established investigators who together form a highly interactive and dynamic group of scientists with a broad range of skills. The trainers hold numerous joint R01 and P01 research grants, and there are many joint lab meetings and seminars. Training for students is supplemented by course work as well as the seminar series and retreats organized by the various graduate groups. Postdoctoral fellows may take seminar courses if they wish. All trainers have active research programs in the general area of HIV pathogenesis ranging from studies on virus entry, tropism, neuropathogenesis, the use of entry inhibitors and other antiviral agents, and the immune response to virus infection. Both pre and postdoctoral trainees will present their work at least once a year at the Tuesday noon seminar series attended by virologists throughout the campus. Information about individual investigators can be found either in their personal web pages or at Perelman School of Medicine Research website.

To be trainees on this grant students must be admitted to candidacy for the PhD degree through the biomedical graduate studies program at the University of Pennsylvania. Inquiries and requests for application forms can be sent to:
