Immune Response

Immunology research in the Microbiology Department takes place in close association with the Institute for Immunology. Penn investigators study numerous topics at the host-pathogen interface.  Penn investigators work on vaccine development for infectious agents such as SARS-CoV-2, HIV, smallpox, herpes simplex, Clostridioides difficile, and Ebola. Studies focus on immune mechanisms responsible for long term protection and modulating immunity to protect privileged anatomical sites.

At Penn, extensive immunological research is carried out at the Institute for Immunology.
