Announcing the Faculty Foundations Onboarding Course

Beginning 01/01/2027, all Perelman School of Medicine faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor are required to complete the Faculty Foundations Onboarding Course. This course provides information and skills-based practice that support success at reappointment and promotion and enables the Perelman School of Medicine to meet standards set by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education.

This program replaces the Onboarding for Teaching Program. During the period from 01/01/2026 to 01/01/2027, AC, CE, and Tenure faculty may choose to complete either the original Onboarding for Teaching Program in its entirety or the new Faculty Foundations course.

In recognition of the importance of teaching, and in support of the teaching faculty, all Assistant Professors on the Academic Clinician, Clinician Educator, and Tenure tracks are required to complete the onboarding for teaching program prior to their first reappointment. This program provides information and skills-based practice that support success at reappointment and promotion, and enables the Perelman School of Medicine to meet standards set by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education.

Writing Letters of Recommendation for Trainees

Faculty will learn key strategies for getting started on a letter of recommendation, how to structure a letter of recommendation, and how to avoid common mistakes. Course will also include a discussion of your options when asked by a trainee (clinical or non-clinical) to write a letter on their behalf.

Managing Discriminatory Patient Encounters in the Clinical Learning Environment

This course is designed to provide new faculty with resources and tools to minimize impact of abusive and discriminatory patient encounters. Registrants will complete course content asynchronously via interactive webpages, discussion boards, and completion of assignments based on real clinical experiences.
